The magic
happened.
A week before I set foot on the playa, I asked an AI to imagine the face of BurnerPeople.com: goggles pushed up, hair full of wind, eyes that had spent too long on the deep playa. She became the badge you signed up under.
Out there, a friend saw that badge and put the very same goggles in my hands. Then the dust storm came, and she rode out of it on a bike — her, the face from the badge, real. A few minutes later the dust took her back. I never got her name.
